Chemicals worth several lakhs gutted in fire
Chennai, Nov 5 (UNI) A major fire broke out at a chemical godown destroying chemicals worth several lakhs of rupees at Purasawalkam here today.
Fire services sources said the fire broke out around 1600 hrs and it took more than three hours for the fire service personnel to put out the fire.
No casualty was reported and the cause of the mishap was yet to be known, the sources said.
Thirteen fire tenders and 17 metro water tankers were pressed into service. About 150 fire service personnel battled for nearly three hours to extinguish the fire.
Mr Vijaya Sekar, Deputy Director, Fire service north, assisted by other senior officers, supervised the operation.
