Rajkot, Nov 5 (UNI) Central Election Commissioner Navin Chawla today visited the border district of Kutch and Saurashtra region to review their preparedness for the forthcoming Assembly Polls in Gujarat.

During his hectic tour, Mr Chawla held detailed discussions with Election Officers of various districts and top police officers to review the election process in the sensitive districts.

Talking to mediapersons here this evening, Mr Chawla said, ''I have met representatives of political parties and others to collect their comments and views relating to the Assembly elections.'' The political parties have suggested immediate clearance for use of certain places and loudspeakers, he said, adding ''we will expedite the process to accord requisite permission by introducing single window system''.

Mr Chawla said detailed guidelines had been issued for video coverage of all important events during the election process.

When asked whether there would be any effect on the border district of Kutch following imposition of emergency in Pakistan, he said concerned security authorities should be more vigilant at the borders, but added that as far as Gujarat elections are concerned, they would be conducted smoothly.

Earlier, he held meetings with the district authorities of Rajkot, Amreli, Surendranagar, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Porbandar, and Junagadh.

He said the commission would deploy observers in all areas to ensure smooth conduct of polls.
