Lucknow, Nov 5 (UNI) A bill seeking a hike in the pension of former Uttar Pradesh legislators was passed in the legislative assembly today.
With this, the former MLAs and MLCs of the state would be entitled to a Rs 6,000 per moth pension, beginning December 1 this year. The bill also ensures that the former legislators get an annual hike of Rs 800 in their pension.
Till now, former UP legislators were getting Rs 2,500 per month as pension.
Interestingly, a similar bill was passed in the state assembly on February 28, 2007 during the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav government. But since the model code of conduct was in place following announcement of asembly elections, Governor T V Rajeswar had not put his stamp of approval on it. The previous bill had fixed Rs 5,000 as pension.
