Seven held for robbery in TN

Perambalur, Tamil Nadu, Nov 4: Seven persons were arrested for dacoity at 12 temples, including the famous Sri Mathurakaliamman temple at Siruvachur near here yesterday.

Inspector General of Police Central Zone, I Raja said here that three special police teams arrested the culprits, following the dacoity at Sri Mathurakaliamman temple where two watchmen were killed in September this year.

The arrested persons Selvaraj, M Murugesan alias Nondi Murugesan, M Ramalingam, P Settu, M Pandiyan alias Thirumoorthy alias Mookan, S Ramesh and R Anand were hailing from Kunnam and Poiyoor villages.

They managed to enter into the temple by scaling the compound wall and killed two watchmen of the temple and stole cash and other valuables worth Rs 40,000 from the temple hundi, police added.

A colour TV, a cd player and 51 grams of gold jewellery were recovered from them. Further investigations were on.
