Around 65 pc administered polio drops in Haryana

Chandigarh, Nov 4 (UNI) Sixty five per cent of the children upto the age of 5 years were administered polio drops on the first day of the 3-day pulse polio immunisation campaign, which began today in the high risk areas of nine districts in Haryana.

A spokesman of Haryana Health Department said the districts included Ambala, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Panipat, Mewat, Sonepat and Yamunanagar. He said the polio drops were administered at the booths set up there and the campaign would continue for two more days when the teams would go from house-to-house to administer polio vaccine to the leftout children.

He said 7100 booths were set up in these districts which were manned by about 28,400 health officials, volunteers,anganwari workers and accredited social health activists.

About 19 lakh children between upto the age of 5 years would be covered under this campaign. Special attention was being paid to the children living in slums, isolated hutments, brick-kilns and migratory population, he added.
