Uttar Pradesh bowled out Orissa for 216

Cuttack, Nov 3 (UNI) Helped by fine bowling by debutant S Tyagi (6 for 46) Uttar Pradesh bowled out Orissa for a paltry 216 in the first innings on the first day of the four-day Ranji trophy elite-B group match played at the Barabati stadium here today.

Like host team Orissa, UP too faced early debacle and were 84 for 3 at the end of the first day's play.

Earlier, Orissa won the toss and elected to bat but the hosts bowed before the visiting team pacer Tyagi.

Former Indian opener S S Das who was having a poor outing for the last two seasons made a brilliant 75 with 12 fours. He and P Jayachandra (55) made 86 for the fifth wicket.

Debashis Mohanty chipped in 27 runs and wicket keeper Haldhar Das made 14. No other Orissa player was able to reach double figures.

Right arm off spinner S Shukla was the other successful bowler for UP claiming two for 16 in his four overs.

Chasing Orissa total UP lost early wickets. Relahi was first to go for 7 runs with team total reading 11. Other openers S Shukla and S Raina were at the stumps with 35 and 27 runs respectively at the end of the day.

For Orissa Debashis Mohanty, Sukant Khatua and Pritamajit Das took one wicket each.

Brief Score: Orissa 216 all out in 64 overs ( S S Das 75, Jayachandra 55) UP- 84 for 3 in 26 overs (Shukla 35 N O, Raina 27 N O).
