Dubai, Nov 3 (UNI) As the deadline for illegal residents ends today, the UAE government warned that tough penalties would be imposed against those found to be overstaying the amnesty period.

Labour minister Ali bin Abdullah Al Kaabi said labour inspectors would identify violators and bring them to justice.

The government had announced recently that more labour inspectors would be included into service for the purpose.

''The labour-related problems facing the ministry include violation of employment contract terms, failing to renew work permits for workers, absconding, hiring undocumented workers and the fact that some employers not only hire illegal residents but also help them hide from the authorities,'' official news agency, WAM, quoted the minister as saying.

Labour ministry would coordinate with the Interior Ministry in implementing labour regulations and would take strict measures against violators, including banning and prosecution of companies, which hire illegal residents, he said.
