Chennai, Nov 3 (UNI) Leaders of political parties espousing the cause of Eelam Tamils, including the PMK, Viduthalai Chirthaigal Katchi (VCK) and the MDMK, today condemned the killing of LTTE's political wing head S P Tamilselvan in an air strike by the Sri Lankan Military yesterday.
In a statement here, PMK founder S Ramadoss, whose party is an ally of the DMK-led DPA in Tamil Nadu, said the killing shocked the Tamils all over the world and those who believes in peace, human rights and democracy.
He said India should no longer remain a mute spectator to the happenings in the neighbouring country and the sufferings faced by the Tamils.
The Indian government should insist on its Sri Lankan counterpart to stop the genocide on Eelam Tamils and arrive at a negotiated settlement to provide the political and democratic rights to the Tamils there.
Dr Ramadoss said on behalf of the 6.5 crore Tamils in the state, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi should draw this Centre's attention towards this.
''I will also be writing a letter to the Chief Minister in this regard'', he added.
The PMK leader said the death of Tamiselvan, who had raised his voice for the genuine rights of the Tamils by participating in the Norway-brokered peace talks, was a big setback for arriving at a negotiated settlement to the ethnic crisis.
The incident also proved that the Sri Lankan government was not interested in peace talks and was bent upon wiping out the Eelam Tamils, he said, adding that Tamilselvan's death was a big loss to the Eelam Tamils.
Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) General Secretary Vaiko and VCK General Secretary Thol Thirumavalavan expressed shock and grief over the killing of Tamilselvan.
In separate statements, the leaders, staunch supporters of the LTTE, urged the world countries across the world to come forward to condemn the killing and exert pressure on the Sri Lankan government to find a political solution to the ethnic crisis.
Alleging that the Lankan government was engaged in a genocide, the leaders said when Pakistan and China were supplying arms to the government to carry out the genocide, India also supplied radars and other arms and this deserved to be condemned.
