Shillong, Nov 3 (UNI) Leading European rock band - Scorpions - will perform here on December 12 as Shillong has edged out other cities to be the preferred destination to host the concert in Eastern India.
The rock band will also launch their new album ''Humanity Hour 1'' in the country.
Shillong has been chosen to host the concert in the Eastern region, while Mumbai has been chosen for music lovers in the western region and Bangalore for the south.
The show will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on December 12, in Mumbai on December 14 and at Bangalore's Palace Gardens on December 16, Entertainment 18 sources confirmed.
The five-member Germany-based band comprises Klaus Meine (vocals), Rudolf Schenker (guitars) Matthias Jabs (lead guitar, voice box, vocals), James Kottak (drums) and Pawel Maciwoda (bass).
''We have chosen Shillong to host the concert because of the audience's love for rock music and also for being the international rock capital in the East,'' Entertainment 18 Chief Executive Officer Farhad Wadia told UNI here.
The capital of Meghalaya, known for its passion for Western music, has emerged as a hot destination for international music bands with recent performances by 'Petra', 'Fire House', 'Michael Learns to Rock' (MLTR), 'Air Supply' and Paul Di Anno.
Besides, Eric Martin, the voice of Mr Big and Sepultura, had their gigs in Shillong last month.
''This show (Scorpions) is a lifetime honour to Shillong as the place is emerging as the favourite destination of international rock bands,'' Centre Point Entertainment Network Director Larsing Ming said.
Scorpions are a hard rock/heavy metal band from Hannover, Germany, best known for their 1980s rock anthem ''Rock You Like a Hurricane'' and their singles ''Winds of Change'', ''No One Like You'', ''Still Loving You'', and ''Send Me an Angel''.
The band has sold over 75 million albums worldwide.
