Patil urges Governor to initiate rehabilitation works
Bangalore, Nov 3 (UNI) The Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Legislative Council H K Patil today urged Governor Rameshwar Thakur to initiate steps to rehabilitate people of 22 villages in Gadag district, which had been in deep distress following heavy rains this season.
In a letter addressed to Mr Thakur here, he said many villages in the district were inundated while several crops were destroyed and livestock vanished in the flood waters between August and September. More than 10,000 people were struggling for their existence and residing on the roadside, he added.
Mr Patil urged the Governor to conduct a survey of the houses affected in the rains and release Rs 25,000 immediately and ensure compensation for the crop loss, besides taking long-term measures to shift villages, which were prone to floods.
