Aizawl, Nov 3 (UNI) Mizoram Art and Culture Joint Director R S Rosanglura (54) was found dead, lying on a ground below the first-floor room of the Guwahati Mizoram House he had checked into on November one, police said here today.
The official was found dead in a pool of blood yesterday, police added.
Since the spot at which the official was found was not vertical to the upper room he had occupied, the possibility of him falling from the room had been ruled out, police said.
''We strongly suspect that Mr Rosanglura was murdered. We immediately informed the police and they are currently investigating into the death. Forensic experts had also arrived almost immediately. Since the crime scene was cordoned off and we could not go near the dead body, therefore we could not ascertain the wounds the body bore,'' Guwahati Mizo Welfare president H Lalzirliana said over the phone.
However, according to some eyewitnesses, Mr Rosanglura's body bore fatal wounds, evidently sustained from severe blows on the face and on the back of the head.
The sources believed that he had died after midnight on November one.
Mr Rosanglura had arrived from Delhi and checked into one of the VIP rooms named 'Clivia'.
He was last seen in the evening near the main gate, talking on the phone in the PCO inside the campus.
Mizoram House sources said it appeared that the official did not fall asleep in his room.
A pair of slippers and a knife were found in his room. It could not be ascertained whether the knife, which was not bloodstained, belonged to him, the sources said.
The joint director was planning to visit the Mizoram Art and Culture department outlets at Guwahati and had even invited the staff to a breakfast yesterday morning.
Mr Rosanglura is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters.
