LAEF militants demand Rs five lakh from MLA
Shillong, Nov 3 (UNI) The Liberation of A'chik Elite Force (LAEF) has demanded Rs five lakh from Meghalaya Legislator Monindra Rava and threatened to kill his son-in-law if he fails to comply with their demands.
Mr Rava, a minister in the former NCP government, today alleged that suspected LAEF militants had served him an extortion notice of Rs five lakh and demanded payment of the amount by November 5.
The NCP MLA, who had decided to contest the forthcoming Assembly polls on a Congress ticket, lodged a complaint with the police authorities.
He also handed over the original extortion note to the state police for immediate action.
State Director General of Police B K Dey Sawian ordered an inquiry to ascertain the truth and arrest those involved in the extortion.
Unidentified militants had ambushed a vehicle in which Mr Rava's son Dibya Jyoti Rava and four others were travelling and killed all five of them about five years back.
Police registered a case against those involved in serving the extortion note, official sources said.
