Bhopal, Nov 3 (UNI) Counting of votes cast in the byelection to Lanji assembly constituency in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday was in progress at the district town of Balaghat today.
Tight security arrangements have been made for the counting that would be undertaken in 11 rounds, District Collector Gulshan Bamra said.
More than 70 per cent polling was recorded in the by-polls on October 30. The byelection was necessitated due to the death of former BJP minister Dilip Bhatere.
Bhatere' wife Dhareshwari Bhatere is the BJP nominee in a 19-cornered contest with Mr Bhagwat Bhau Nagpure (Congress) and Samajwadi Party's Kishore Samrite.
Other prominent candidates include Janata Party's Kankar Munjare (JP) Bhartiya Jan Shakti's Badhuram Devgadhe and Gondwana Gantantra Party's Rajeshwar Choudhary.
