Kolkata, Nov 2 (UNI) SUCI president Provash Ghosh today refuted Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's claim of Maoist involvement in the Nandigram violence.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Ghosh said, " Mr Bhattacharjee is purposely passing the buck on the Maoists so that the strong resistance by the people of Nandigram and the Bhumi Uchchhed Pratirodh Committee (BUPC) to foil land acquisition is not highlighted. " Not only the Trinamool Congress-led BUPC, the SUCI, Congress and other political parties, including some Left activists, were also involved in the Nandigram movement, but there was no such involvement of the Maoists or the Naxal groups, he asserted.
He said the CPI(M)-led Left Front government and police had totally failed to control the situation and would try to recapture their land in Nandigram with the help of Central forces.
To a query, he said peace in Nandigram could be possible if the government immediately conceded the BUPC demands and punish those, involved in the March 14 killing.
" We will observe 'Save Nandigram' week from November six throughout the state, " he said.
