Ahmedabad, Nov 2 (UNI) The Election Commission has issued a showcause notice to Minister of State for Railways Naranbhai Rathwa for violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
Mr Rathwa has been asked to explain his position by noon on November five.
According to reports received at the election office, Mr Rathwa visited Vadodara on October 20 as per tour programme sent to the district administration by his Private Secretary and had moved in a private vehicle, fitted with a red beacon light, from Airport to the Circuit House, Vadodara, On verification, it was found he had used a private vehicle provided and hired by the Railway authorities and also used RPF escort, provided by the Authorities.
The Commission noted that by his acts, Mr Rathwa has violated the provisions of model code of conduct and the Commission's standing directions issued in this regard.
According to the code, Ministers are entitled to use their official vehicles only for commuting from their official residence to their office for official work provided that such commuting is not combined with any electioneering or any political activity.
