Orissa to set up two Special Courts for trial of corruption cases

Bhubaneswar, Nov 2 (UNI) The Orissa government will set up two special courts to undertake speedy trial in cases of disproportionate assets pending against various political leaders and senior officials.

This was decided at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here yesterday.

Official sources said the special courts would begin proceedings in the cases as per provisions under Orissa Special Court Act, 2006.

While, one such court would be established in Bhubaneswar, the other court will be based in Cuttack.

The government will soon approach the Orissa High Court to furnish a list of the name of the judges to be appointed in the Special courts, sources said.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Ajit Kumar Tripathy, Home Secretary Tarunkanti Mishra and Special Secretary to the Chief Minister Bijaya Kumar Pattnaik besides the Special Secretary to the Law Department.
