New Delhi, Nov 2 (UNI) Outraged by the brutal thrashing of some journalists in Bihar by Janata Dal (U) legislator Anant Singh and his henchmen, media organisations today appealed to party President Sharad Yadav to take exemplary action against the guilty.
The appeal was made by a joint delegation of the National Union of Journalists (I) and the Delhi Journalists Association (DJA), which submitted a memorandum to Mr Yadav here in this connection.
''The incident in Patna is another disgusting and and horrendous example of criminalisation of politics,'' DJA President Manohar Singh said.
The two organisations also said there was no place for such elements in any political party of the country.
Reminding the JD(U) leadership of their stated position against criminalisation in politics, the memorandum said ''if the party leadership is true to their words, they must take strong action against the erring MLA.'' The NUJ and the DJA also warned that if assaults and victimisation of journalists in Bihar continued, mediapersons would be compelled to launch a countrywide agitation against the Nitish Kumar government in the state.
The DJA also appealed to mediapersons to boycott all the future functions associated with Mr Anant Singh.
Mr Singh, who is allegedly involved in the murder of a woman, and his henchmen had confined three journalists, including two from NDTV, and mercilessly beat them up when they sought the legislator's comment on the charge.
