House tax waiver to benefit 9 lakh families

Chandigarh, Nov 2 (UNI) Haryana Education and Transport Minister Mange Ram Gupta today said the state government's decision to waive off House Tax in urban areas would benefit about nine lakh families to the tune of Rs 35 crore per annum.

Describing the announcement of waiving off House Tax of urban areas and Chulha tax in rural areas made by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda as 'historic', he said the decision would provide a big relief to the people residing both in urban and rural areas.

He thanked the Chief Minister for taking such welfare measures for the benefit of the people of the state.

Mr Gupta said that during the previous regime, the Congress leaders had repeatedly tried to impress upon former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala to unburden the people of this unnecessary liability but he did not act in this regard.

The Chief Minister had yesterday announced to waive off House Tax of urban areas and Chulha Tax in rural areas from April, 2008 provided they deposit their outstanding arrears up to March 31.
