Ahmedabad, Nov 2 (UNI) Gujarat, led by test discard Parthiv Patel, hope to regain their berth in the elite group by performing superlatively against visiting Assam in the four-day Ranji Trophy match, beginning at the Sardar Patel Gujarat Stadium at Motera, near here, from tomorrow.
This year, hosts Gujarat have been pushed down to the plate division of the Ranji Trophy group on the basis of their inferior performance last season, in which they lost to Rajasthan, Punjab, Mahashtra and Mumbai and managed to win only against Hyderabad and Bengal.
Gujarat coach Ashok Patel told UNI that ''In a bid to improve its performance in tomorrow's tie against Assam, Team Gujarat has introduced two new faces, spinner Mohnish Parmar and all rounder Timil Patel in the squad.
Mr Patel said ''As its primary objective Team Gujarat has evolved a strategy to improves its display in all the three departments -- batting, bowling and fielding-- to make it qualify for the elite group.'' He said, ''In the batting department, the team is aiming to have good start from its openers, Hem Joshipura and Nilesh Modi and then to build a target by the experienced middle order batsmen captain Parthiv, Nilesh Modi and Niraj Patel.
