Goa to have monitoring mechanism for cable TV channels: CM

Panaji, Nov 2 (UNI) Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat today said that the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 will be thoroughly implemented in the state and as a first step a Monitoring Committee for private Television Channels will soon be constituted to act as an enforcement mechanism.

The decision was taken at a meeting of Cable Network Operators and Government Officers held today and it was resolved that Collecor of North and South Goa be designated as authorised officers within the district limits to seize and confiscate the equipment of the cable operators for violation of section 5 and 6 of the cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act 1955 i.e.violation of prorgramme code and advertisement Code prescribed under Rule 6 and 7 of Cable Televsion network rules 1994.

Mr Kamat also said the monitoring Committee for the programmes and Advertisement telecast by Cable TV Channels will have District Magistrate as chairman.

The committee will review nd deleberate on the litany of complaints received by authorised officers or take a suo-Motu cognizance of violation of programme and advertisement codes in the programmes trasmitted and re-transmitted in the local cable channels.

The representatives of Cable operators Assocation said Goverment should go for CAS in entire state as it will be cheaper to have TV assess.

They informed that CAS has been introduced in metropolitan cities in New Delhi, Kolkata ad Mumbai and has benefited large number of people. Chief Minister after discussion assured the Cable operators Assocation that he will request ministry of Information and Broadcasting to introduce CAS in the state.

All cable operators should amicably settle if there are any problems and pave a way for smooth growth of the industry, Chief Minister added.
