Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu, Nov 2 (UNI) Senior IAS Officer M F Farooqui, who had been appointed by the state government to probe the attack on Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President M Krishnaswamy, today held an inquiry with senior police officials.
Official sources said Mr Farooqui also held inquiries with Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ilango and 12 police constables who were on bandobust duty on October 29 at Mudukulathur in Ramanathapuram, when Krishnaswamy was stabbed by an armed gang.
The IAS official also questioned top police officials and District Collector R Kirlosh Kumar at the PWD Guest House in Paramakudi to find out whether local police was aware of the route taken by Krishnaswamy to reach the function venue and steps taken for his protection.
He also went through the previous incidents of violence in the district in the past. Later, he left for Madurai.
Talking to newspersons, Mr Kirlosh Kumar said ''Mr Farooqui has conducted preliminary inquiries with the police officials. He will again visit the district next week for further inquiry.'' Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who came under heavy fire from his allies and opposition for failing to provide security to the Congress leader, had ordered an inquiry into the attack, yesterday. The government had sought the report from Mr Farooqui within 15 days.
Meanwhile, a special police team arrested two persons in connection with the incident today.
Police identified the suspects as Ragu and Muniaswamy of Keezhakannikeri Village near Mudukulathur in Ramanathapuram District where Mr Krishnaswamy was attacked on October 29.With this, the total arrests have gone up to five.
