CRPF to be deployed in strife-torn Nandigram
Kolkata, Nov 2(UNI) The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will be deployed in the embattled Nandigram by next week, West Bengal Home Secretary Prasad Ranjan Ray today said.
The force would be deployed following a request by Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on October 29.
The state Government had sought deployment of one battalion of the para-military force in Nandigram, witnessing an unabated violence for the past ten months.
To a question, the Home Secretary said CRPF personnel would be deployed at Nandigram and other places, where violence was continuing.
" The deployment part will be finalised after discussions, " he said.
