Kochi, Nov 2 (UNI) Defence Minister A K Antony today said the party high command will take a final decision on the return of NCP leader and former Congressman K Karunakaran to the party.
Briefly talking to reporters here, he said ''there is no need to make any public statement on the issue as the high command has to take the final decision.'' Speaking at the inaugural function of the two-day 'Leadership Camp' of the party here, Mr Antony said the party should initiate steps to attract young people to its fold. ''The future lies with the youth and the party should strenghten the Youth Congress and its students wing, KSU,'' he noted.
He claimed that the Congress was the only party which could save the country from 'religious fanatics' and 'divisive politicians'.
''We should also understand that the chances of a one-party rule, both at the Centre and State, are grim and there is no scope for a third front in Indian politics,'' he said.
The party had a group of leaders, but there was dearth of grass-root workers and this problem should be addressed effectively, Mr Antony said.
He also criticised the CPM of continuing with its tactics of overpowering its opponents through 'physical force'.
