China aims to contain deterioration trend in lake pollution

Jaipur, Nov 2 (UNI) China has been working on a time bound programme to contain the accelerative deterioration trend of lake eutrophication, and gradual recovery of ecological environment for final objective of harmonious co-existence of human and lake, Chinese Vice Minister Wang Yuqing said.

Speaking at the valedictory session in the 12th World Lake Conference here today Mr Yuqing, who holds Environment Protection Administration porfolio in Chinese Government, said Premier Wen Jiabao with State Council of the People's Republic of China inperson were taking due lead in ensuring governance of water pollution at the valley of the three lakes(Tauhu Lake, Chaohu Lake and Dianchi Lake).

The visiting minister said, China Government would treat the issue of pollution control and governance of water body as significant special science and technology project at national medium and long term science and technology planning.

His government would try to use five years to contain the accelerative deterioration trend of lake eutrophication and then use the long term to gradually recover the ecologial environment of lake area, Mr Yuqing said.

He said, that China Government was also launching the activity of reconnaissance survey of nation-wide pollution sources for the first time. This survey would last for two to three years and would ensure to identify industrial, domestic and agriculture pollution sources, so as to establish the solid foundation for pollution governance, Mr Yuqing added.

The Chinese leader also stressed up on the importance of international cooperation for the cause of lake conservation and restoration and said environment protection of lakes depended on common efforts by countries around the world.
