Chandigarh, Nov 2 (UNI) The city would host the prestigious regional Horse Show from November 5 to November 11 at the Punjab University Dusshera Ground, in which 200 of the finest sports horses in the country will participate, Director Sports, UT, I S Sandhu said here today.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the Chandigarh Horse Show would be the first of its kind in the northern region. The army, the paramilitary forces, various state police and leading riding schools of the country would be participating in the show.
The show, officially allotted to the city by the Equestrian Federation of India, is being conducted as per the rules and regulations laid down by the Federation Equestre Internationale, he said.
The Chandigarh administration would be supporting this first Horse Show of this season in the North India Equestrian Circuit. Wing Commander I J Lamba and Mr Inderjeet Singh of the New Delhi Equestrian Promoters, which is organisisng the show, were also present in the conference.
Film actor Randeep Hooda would also compete in different events, Wing Commander I J Lamba informed reporters adding that the show aimed at introducing children to competitive riding, he added.
The plan is to make this into an annual event and also use Chandigarh as a centre for encouraging the exciting sport of equestrian in the Northern region, especially among the younger generation.
Show Jumping, Hacks, Tent Pegging, Dressage and Gymkhana events would be held during the show. 43 events would be held including events for children and open competitions for all age groups.
Mr Sandhu also said that 20 acres of land has been earmarked at Sarangpur village for developing an Ultra Modern Race Course with state-of-the-art infrastructures.
