Mumbai, Nov 2 (UNI) The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will take action against the Deputy Education Officer of Dongri municipal school for granting a no objection certificate to the trustees of the school for running an International Baccalaureate degree and flouting the BMC rules.

Three years ago, the Dongri municipal school was given to a private trust for teaching students on a trial basis. The people behind the BMC schools had carried out major structural changes in the school and had started International Baccalaureate (IB) degree in its premises.

Municipal Commissioner Jairaj Phatak said, ''The BMC schools cannot run IGSE, ICSE or IB degree in its premises and only Maharashtra Board education can be imparted, as BMC schools are meant for the poorer sections of the society and the other degrees are for the affluent classes.'' Mr Phatak added that the Deputy Education Officer had given a NOC to the trust for running an IB degree inspite of not having the authority to do so.

Mr Phatak said that an inquiry is going on regarding the case and action will be taken according to the quantum of guilt.
