BJYM Leader gets five-year jail term

Akola, Nov 2 (UNI) The President of the Akola district unit of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM-Youth wing of BJP) Mr Umesh R Jadhav has been sentenced to 5 years rigorous jail term under section 506 of IPC for criminal intimidation of the complainant Fulchand Jaideo Patil, two years ago.

Handing down the sentence yesterday, the district and sessions Judge-1 Ms Shalini Gaikwad also sentenced the accused to two years rigorous imprisonment under section 504 of IPC for intentional insult of the complainant. The accused has been totally fined Rs 4000 in two counts of IPC and in default to undergo further 2 months RI.

However the judge acquitted other 15 co-accused from all charges. Moreover, the judge also acquitted the accused Umesh Jadhav from the charges of 143 147 and 148 of ipc and section 3 (1) (10) of the atrocities act related to SC and ST people.

The judge made it clear that the accused Umesh Jadhav has to undergo sentences concurrently.

On Nov 19 2005 at village Andura under Ural police station in Akola district, accused Umesh and his accomplices created a chaos in Gram Sabha (village meeting) over the sitting of Fulchand Patil on a chair. Later, Fulchand was pulled down from the chair and was abused on caste basis.

The offences were registered under sections 143, 147, 148 of IPC and section 3 (1) (10) of atrocities act and accused were tried in session court. In all, 14 witnesses were examined and none of them turned hostile.
