AIIMS Bill to be taken up first by Parliament: Dasmunsi

New Delhi, Nov 2: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences and the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (Amendment) Bill 2007 will be the first legislative business of the winter session of Parliament beginning on November 15.

The announcement was made by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi in response to reporters' queries at the weekly Cabinet briefing.

The Bill, introduced in the Lok Sabha and referred to the Standing Committee in the monsoon session, had come in the wake of an ongoing fued between Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss and AIIMS Director P Venugopal over their respective powers in running the institute.

The Bill seeks to vest with Parliament the power to modify the terms and conditions of the appointment of the Directors of AIIMS, New Delhi, and PGIMER, Chandigarh.
