40 kg poppy straw seized, two held on Kashmir highway

Jammu, Nov 2 (UNI) Two narcotics smugglers were arrested with 40 kg of poppy straw near Kud, on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Udhampur district of the state, police today said.

Kunda Singh and Varinder Singh, residents of Taran Taran (Punjab), were arrested during a special checking on the highway near Kud yesterday, police said.

During the questioning, the duo disclosed that the consignment, taken from Anantnag in Kashmir valley, was to be delivered in Punjab.

The truck, which was being used for shipping contraband, was also taken into custody, police added.
