Vaiko embarks on fast against rly zone allocation

Coimbatore, Nov 1 (UNI) MDMK General Secretary Vaiko and hundreds of party workers today resorted to a token fast at Pollachi in the district against the inclusion of Pollachi railway line with Palakkad railway division while setting up a new Salem railway division.

The fast was inaugurated by former Union Minister and MDMK Treasurer M Kannappan, near the Taluk office.

It may be recalled here that the inauguration of the new railway division at Salem would take place this evening, after protracted confrontation over the issue between Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

The function would be attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, Union Ministers Lalu Prasad, Dr Anbumani Ramadoss and R Velu, and State Ministers.
