Chennai, Nov 1 (UNI) Three days after the brutal stabbing of TNCC President M Krishnaswamy by an armed gang at Keezha Kanniseri in Ramanathapuram district, police today made a breakthrough in the case by arresting three persons involved in the incident.

Sources close to Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) K Vijayakumar, camping in Ramanathapuram district, told UNI that the trio was arrested this morning after detailed investigation.

They were identified as Malainegu (42), Ramalingam (45) and Munisamy (42). While Malainegu hailed from Vilankalathur village, the other two were from Keezha Kanniseri, where the incident took place on the night of October 29. The trio would be remanded this evening, the sources said.

Mr Krishnaswamy was proceeding to a village in Ramanathapuram district to attend a party function on October 29, when he was waylaid by an armed gang and stabbed. He was undergoing treatment at the corporate Apollo hospital in Madurai.

The arrest comes at a time when leaders of various parties questioned the delay in arresting those involved in the incident and demanded a probe by the CBI and the State Crime Branch-CID police.

PMK founder-leader S Ramadoss, demanding action against the police officers, who had erred in their duty, questioned the wisdom of police in not making inquiries with Congress functionaries, who had accompanied Mr Krishnaswamy on that fateful day.

He demanded that the State Crime Branch CID police probe the attack, while Dr Vishnu Prasad, Congress MLA and son of the TNCC President, demanded a CBI probe, stating that the attack was not a case of mistaken identity as reported in a section of the Press.

Meanwhile, Union Minister and former TNCC President E V K S Elangovan said the attack was a planned conspiracy and alleged that the incident showed deterioration of law and order in the State.
