Coimbatore, Oct 31 (UNI) Tension prevailed at the Coimbatore Medical College (CMC) Hospital here as various associations demanded compensation and release on bail to those convicted in the serial bomb blast case to take the body of Sabur Rahman, a convicted prisoner in the case, who died in the hospital of a massive heart attack this afternoon.
Over seven Muslim associations presented a memorandum to District Collector Neeraj Mittal demanding an immediate relief of Rs ten lakh to Sabur Rahman's family and a government job to a member of his family. They also sought the immediate suspension of Dr Chitra for not providing proper treatment to him.
The district administration has decided to conduct a RDO enquiry before post-mortem which was likely to take place only tomorrow.
Last week, Special Court Judge K Uthirapathy convicted and sentenced Rahman to various terms of imprisonment in the serial blast case on various charges including promoting enmity between religions, Explosive Acts and attempt to murder.
He was also given life imprisonment for charges of criminal conspiracy.
Police had made elaborate security arrangements in and outside the hospital campus to prevent any untoward incident.
