Manipur Journalist Award conferred on N Sanatomba

Imphal, Nov 1 (UNI) State Information Minister T N Haokip today presented the Manipur Journalist Award, 2007, to Manipur Mail Editor N Sanatomba Singh.

A cash award of Rs 5,000 and a citation were presented to Mr Singh, the editor of the oldest English daily in the state, at a function held at the Information office here, organised by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR).

The day is also being observed as the Information and Public Relations day to commemorate the establishment of the department in the state.

Mr Singh said he was surprised to know that he was selected for the award.

He expressed his gratitude to the state government for the award.

Mr Haokip said he was happy that the award was conferred on a well-known journalist and announced that from next year, the awards will be distributed in four categories and the cash award will be increased to Rs 25,000.

Commissioner, Information H Devsekhar Sharma said the state government had sanctioned more than Rs one crore to construct a building for the DIPR which would soon be established.
