Girl's body adds new twist to MLA rape allegations

Patna, Nov 1 (UNI) Recovery of the body of a girl from a locality under Shastri Nagar police station area here this morning triggered a widespread controversy over the alleged involvement of JD(U) MLA Anant Singh in her murder.

When scribes approached Mr Singh for comments at his official residence, the latter allegedy held them hostage and assaulted them injuring a reporter and photographer of a private TV channel and a news agency respectively. Later, Mr Singh along with four other accomlices were arrested in this connection on the basis of complaints lodged against them at Schivalay police station.

Earlier, a girl identifying herself as 'Reshma' had written letters to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, senior police officers and various newspapers and private television channel offices informing them about the alleged atrocities committed on her by JD(U) MLA Anant Singh in the name of providing her with a job.

In her letter, she had alleged that Mr Singh and his aides had violated her modesty several times and urged the state government to take against Mr Singh as early as possible.

Reshma, however, had not disclosed her address in the letter.

In her letter, Reshma had apprehended threat on her life as Mr Singh had allegedly warned her not to disclose it to others or face dire consequences.

''The matter is being invesitigated to find out whether the the body of the girl recovered today is that of Reshma or not'', police said adding if evidence against the JD(U) MLA comes up during investigation, lawful action would be initiated against Mr Singh.
