Freight corrdiors soon: Lalu
Salem, Tamil Nadu, Nov 1 (UNI) Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today promised to establish two freight corridors.
Addressing a gathering after the inauguration of the Salem Railway Division here, Mr Prasad said the freight corridors will be established between Mumbai-Chennai and Chennai-Howrah.
On Garib Rath, he said the trains would be introduced between all state headquarters to help the poor enjoy air-conditioned travel.
He said after the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) assumed power at the Centre, the Railways reported a profit of Rs 20,000 crore.
Though the previous governments hiked the passenger fares, the Railways used to run at a loss. This trend underwent a change after the UPA Government came to power.
Even without resorting to hiking passenger tariff, the Railways had managed to report huge profit, Mr Prasad said adding the Indian Railways played a crucial role in fostering the economic development of the nation.
