Younis Khan named Pakistan vice captain

By Staff

Lahore, Oct 31 (UNI) Seasoned batsman Younis Khan was today named vice-captain of the Pakistan cricket team for the crucial India tour starting later this week.

Younis replaces out of form opener Salman Butt as vice-captain.

Interestingly, the batsman had earlier refused to lead the national side after the World Cup debacle in March.

Butt was not even selected for the five one-dayers played against South Africa this month.

In a brief statement here this morning, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said Younis will be the deputy to Shoaib Malik for the whole series (five ODIs and three Tests) in India.

Younis is not new to this position. He was deputy to Inzamam-ul Haq, when Pakistan last toured India for a Test series in 2005.
