Lucknow, Oct 31 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government today said the issue of trifurcation of the state would be decided by the Centre.
State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Lalji Verma, clarifying the government's stand in the state assembly, said the power to create new states rested with the Centre. Hence, Uttar Pradesh will suppport the move only when the Centre will seek the trifurcation.
Earlier, the House witnessed noisy scenes when members of the Congress, BJP and the Rashtriya Lok Dal(RLD) demanded the government bring a resolution on creation of a seperate Bundelkhand and Pachimanchal states.
Congress member Pradeep Jain Aditya, Vinod Chaturvedi and Vivek Kumar Singh had already submitted a resolution in the House proposing seperate Bundelkhand state. The resolution had been accepted and would be tabled in the Assembly later.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati during a massive public rally in the state capital on October 9, the first anniversary of death of Kanshi Ram, had announced that her government supported the creation of Bundelkhand, Pachimanchal and Poorwanchal and, if required, a resolution would be passed by the state assembly.
