Orissa moots action plan to counter naxalite menace

Bhubaneswar, Oct 31 (UNI) The Orissa government today decided to provide adequate security and accelerate development projects to counter the naxal menace in the state.

State Homer Secretary T K Mishra, who presided over a meeting for formulation of action plan on development in naxal-affected districts, told newspersons here that a comprehensive holistic plan would be formulated within next fortnight for implementation of the programmes in the afected districts of Malkangiri and Rayagarha on a pilot project basis.

If succeeded, the action plan would be extended to other seven naxal-affected districts of the state, he said.

Among others, Union Joint Secretary (Naxal Managment) Dinesh Singh Joint Director I B, D P Sinha, IG Union Home Ministry J N Mitra, Orissa DG of Police A Patnaik, D G (Viglance) Gopal Nanda,Orissa I G Prision, I G Vigilance, DIG Sunabeda, and the Collectors of Malkangiri and Ryagarha were present at the meeting.

Mr Mishra said under the plan the existing developmental schemes going on in the area would be integrated to get a common platform for development.

The government, he said, would focus mainly on road connectivity, primary education and primary healthcare and would identify the critical gap to accelerate the developmental process.

He said the state government would find out its own resources for speedy implementation of developmental schemes or if needed would approach the Centre for assistance.

Under the holistic approach the government was planning not only to provide enhanced security but also social security to the people, the Home Secretary said.
