Mumbai, Oct 31 (UNI) Dr Angela Merkel, the visiting Chancellor of Germany, today evinced keen interest in establishing partnership between Maharashtra and an advanced state in Germany.
Dr Merkel, regarded by the Forbes magazine as the most powerful woman in the world at present, discussed various problems of Mumbai and Maharashtra with Governor S M Krishna at Raj Bhavan. These included housing for the urban poor, sanitation, water supply and employment opportunities for the poor.
She also explored the areas of cooperation and investment during her discussion with Mr Krishna, a Raj Bhavan release said here.
Mr Krishna welcomed the Chancellor's suggestion for having a state-to-state partnership between Maharashtra and an advanced State in Germany.
The Governor told Dr Merkel that Maharashtra will welcome cooperation from Germany in the areas of manufacturing, automobile, accessories and the services sector. The meeting lasted for 30 minutes.
Dr Merkel was accompanied by a high-level ministerial delegation.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Jairaj Phatak and Sitaram Kunte, the secretary to the Governor, were also present on the occasion.
