Dehradun, Oct 31 (UNI) Mr Subhash Joshi took over as new Uttarakhand Director General of Police here today.
Mr Joshi, an IPS of 1976 batch, succeeded the first Woman DGP of the country Kanchan Choudhary Bhattacharya, in a ceremony held at Police Headquarters this evening. Ms Bhattacharya retired from the services today.
Earlier in the day, Ms Bhattacharya was accorded a grand farewell by police personnel at Police Line. She said many challenges came on her way during her police career however, she never allowed them to over power her.
Mr Joshi assured that he would ensure that the police department would serve public in accordance to their expectations.
Born on 15th February, Mr Joshi hails from Almora district of Uttarakhand. Son of an officer in Provincial Civil Service of Uttar Pradesh, he joined the Indian Police Services at the young age of 21 in 1976. He has served in almost every specialised wing including GRP, PAC, anti-corruption, Research and Police Headquarters, among other.
After formation of Uttarakhand, he opted to serve in the new state. Recipient of Police Medal (1994) and the President's Police Medal (2000), he joined Uttarakhand in 2003 as IG Intelligence and Security. Presently, he was serving as ADG Intelligence and Security.
