Kathmandu, Oct 31 (UNI) Indian Ambassador to Nepal Shiv Shankhar Mukherjee today separately met Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and Maoists Chairman Prachanda.

Mr Mukherjee met Mr Koirala this afternoon at his residence at Baluwater and discussed the latest political development.

Maoists Chairman Prachanda, along with leader Babu Ram Bhattarai, went to Indian Embassy this evening and held discussion with Mr Mukherjee.

''We discussed the political situation of Nepal and it was just an informal meeting'', Mr Prachanda told the journalists after the meeting.

According to sources, both the meetings focussed on the Maoist motions of declaration of a republic and a fully proportional representation system of voting for the Constituent Assembly elections.

Leaders of major parties have stepped up discussions on the sidelines of the special session of the interim parliament to find a common ground to solve the current political deadlock in the country.

Leaders of the three largest Communist parties in the country today decided to speed up efforts to explore possibilities to avert voting on the proposals tabled by the CPN-Maoist, UML and a few other parties.

Similarly, PM Koirala had asked the NC leaders Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Ram Chandra Poudel, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat and Mahesh Acharya to hold talks with the parties and find a meeting point on the deadlock, pertaining to the Maoist motions.
