Hatsun to set up milk powder plant, open new dairies in TN

Chennai, Oct 31 (UNI) Hatsun Agro Product Limited, a leading private sector dairy, is planning to set up a milk powder plant with a capacity to produce 60 metric tonnes near Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu at the cost of Rs 60 crore.

The proposed state-of-the-art plant Is likely to be commissioned by August 2008, senior Hatsun officials told UNI here today.

Hatsun procures 1.5 million litres of milk every day from 6,000-plus villages and over four lakh farmers directly. It sources the milk, covering a stretch of 1,300 km from Raibagh in North Karnataka to Tenkasi in southern Tamil Nadu.

Stating that Hatsun would commission its dairy at Honnali in Karnataka next month, the officials added the full-fledged plant has the capacity to process and pack one lakh litres of milk per day.

Hatsun was also planning to commission a milk plant with a capacity to produce one lakh litre per day in Madurai by January next year.

For the half-year ending September, Hatsun clocked a turnover of Rs 400.69 crore, which was 45 per cent more than the same period last year.

Hatsun's brand Arun icecreams and Arokya milk were household names in south India, the officials claimed.
