FCI Pondy Chairman visits detained goods train

Puducherry, Oct 31 (UNI) AICC General Secretary and Rajya Sabha Member from Puducherry V Narayansamy in his capacity as the Food Corporation of India (FCI) Puducherry branch Chairman today visited the goods train detained at the Pondicherry Railway Station with rice allegedly meant to be smuggled to Andhra Pradesh.

Later, talking to newspersons here, Mr Narayanasamy said the administration should take steps to refer the case to CBI, as four states were involved.

He said he would apprise the matter to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and All India FCI Chairman and insist on a CBI probe.

PRS traders Bangalore had booked the 40 wagon goods train to transport the rice, allegedly from Tamil Nadu. J R Foods here were the only agents, who had rented out the godowns.

Meanwhile, investigations had revealed that the PRS traders had sent 120 wagons of rice (7,200 tonnes) from Puducherry in the last two months. The consignment was twice sent to Guwahati and once to Bangladesh.
