Madurai, Oct 31 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today said people behind the attack on Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President M Krishnasamy would be apprehended soon.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Karunanidhi said the state police was pursuing the attack vigorously and the culprits would be nabbed soon.
On charges levelled by PMK's M Ramadoss that the state police had become totally inactive, Mr Karunanidhi said, '' Mr Ramadoss has stated that his party will capture power in the next ten years.'' ''Let him make the police active during his regime,'' he quipped.
On AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa's statement that he had participated in the Thevar Jayanthi celebrations with an eye on election, Mr Karunanidhi said ''I went to Ramanathapuram to pay respect to Muthuramalinga Thevar. But she came there to do a work.'' Referring to Ms Jayalalithaa's charge that the DMK government had revoked a Government Order passed by the erstwhile AIADMK regime to merge 'Kallar', 'Agamudaiyar' and 'Maravar' sects of Thevar community into one and call them as 'Mukkulathor', Mr Karunanidhi said the government had not revoked the Order.
Mr Karunanidhi said the government would soon convene a meeting of farmers' representatives to discuss the National Crop Insurance Scheme.
Asked whether the Tamil Nadu government would celebrate the Jayanthi of Bharathiyar, V O Chidambaram Pillai and Kamarajar on the lines of Thevar Jayanthi, he said ''the people of the state, particularly in southern districts, had been celebrating Thevar Jayanthi for a long time and they even consider Thevar as their God.'' The state was ready to provide its share for introduction of High Speed Trains between Chennai-Madurai and Chennai-Coimbatore, he said.
The government would review all the factors and take suitable action to construct a building for World Tamil Sangam here, he said and added that his government was firmly against acquiring agricultural lands for industrial purpose.
