Ancient statues excavated from Jain temple in Hisar

Hisar, Oct 31 (UNI) Three ancient Jain statues have been discovered during the excavation work in a temple in Jahajpul near here.

The labourers digging the courtyard of the temple for constructing a Victory Pillar, found the three white statues and few pieces of pottery, manager of the temple, Sashikant Jain said yesterday.

The inscriptions on the antiques indicate that Lord Adinath's statue was 1074-year-old, while the two others, one of Swami Mahavir and the other of Lord Parshvanath, were made 978 years ago, Mr Jain said.

Hundreds of devotees are thronging the temple to worship the statues which will be formally placed in the main temple after an elaborate anointing ceremony on November 1, he said.
