5 get seven years jail for selling fake notes

Fatehabad, Oct 31 (UNI) The Additional District and Sessions Judge J S Dahiya today awarded seven years rigorous imprisonment to five persons for selling and circulating fake currency notes.

The court has issued non bailable warrants (NBW) for the sixth accused, who was absconding.

The police had arrested Mukhi and Dari Ram on January 13, 2002, while they were going to village Bighar to sell and circulate fake currency notes and recovered currency notes of 50, 100 and 500 denominations from their possession.

During investigation, the accused told police that four others -- Gurcharan Singh, Inderjit Singh, Ashok and Surinder Singh-- were also part of the racket.

Police raided their hideout at Ratia and recovered a coloured lazer printer, a monitor, a central processing unit, a scanner and a key board besides some more currency notes of 50, 100 and 500 denomination.

The police had registered cases against the accused under Sections 489-A, 489-B, 489-C and 489-D of the Indian Penal Code.

The judge, who had convicted the accused yesterday, pronounced the judgement today.

The court today sent Mukhi Ram, Dari Ram, Gurcharan Singh, Inderjit Singh and Ashok to rigorous imprisonment for seven years each and a fine of Rs 5000 each.

The accused will have to undergo a further imprisonment of three months each in the event of their failure to pay the fine.

The sixth accused Surender, who had been attending the courts regularly till now, absconded before the pronouncement of judgement.

The court issued NBW for the arrest of Surender for November 3, 2007.
