Hyderabad, Oct 30: The toll in rain-related incidents today rose to 17 even as heavy rain under the influence of a depression in the southwest Bay threw normal life out of gear in south coastal Andhra and Rayalseema regions of the state.
The officials of the Disaster Management said 15 people were killed in Nellore and two in Kadapa district.
Eighteen people were rescued after the state-owned Road Transport Corporation (RTC) bus, which was stranded in overflowing Yellamaraju river near Chidwelu mandal in Kadapa district yesterday, was extricated from the flood waters.
Two passengers were killed in the incident. The bodies were yet to be identified, the officials said.
Meanwhile, the Nellore district administration has set up 97 relief camps where 5,000-plus people were provided shelter, food and medical facilities.
Rail and road traffic from South to other parts of the country were affected as water flooded the railway track at several places in the Ongole-Gudur section and the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway.
