RPI activists burn effigies of BMC Commissioner
Mumbai, Oct 29 (UNI) The activists of the Republican Party of India, today burned the effigy of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Commissioner Jairaj Phatak for privatising water maintenance in the city.
The effigy was burnt outside the BMC headquarters this afternoon.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Manu Kumar Srivastav last week had made a presentation on the current water supply situation in the city and how appointing private contractors would help maintaining water supply system in the city.
Mr Srivastav had also clarified a few days later, that the Corporation was not privatising water maintenance in the city but only strengthening the maintenance department by allotting more money for it.
The activists shouted slogans against the Corporation and Mr Phatak, before burning the effigy.
