Planet 3 Studios bags Godrej-IIID Innovations Award 2007

Mumbai, Oct 30 (UNI) Planet 3 Studios has bagged India's first Godrej-IIID Innovations Award 2007 for creating futuristic workstations.

Godrej Interio, India's leading home and office furniture solution provider, along with Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID), jointly announced the winner for their unique design concept of Workstation in a Suitcase. Closely following them was the futuristic design presented by Void Labs.

The award not only carries substantial cash prizes amongst design competitions but also offers a royalty for 30 months for the design won by Planet 3 Studios.

The award ceremony was attended by over 300 eminent architects from India and luminaries including Navroze Godrej, the scion of the Godrej family.

The jury comprised eminent Swedish Product and Interior Designer Olle Anderson, noted Designer and Educator Kumar Vyas, practicing Architect and Interior Designer Ratan Batliboi, Godrej Interio GM (Design) E Venkat and former HOD of Industrial Design Centre at IIT Ravi Hazra.

Congratulating and felicitating the winner, Navroze Godrej, son of Jamsheyt Godrej of Godrej&Boyce Manufacturing, said, ''Godrej has a tradition of not only encouraging creativity and nurturing talent, but has always been on the forefront to promote innovation in businesses. We are not only rewarding Planet 3 Studios, but are also keen in taking their design for execution.'' Speaking on the occasion, IIID President Nitin Killawala said, ''Godrej Interio once again proved that it is synonymous with ergonomic yet futuristic workstation designs by joining hands with IIID and instituting an award for the best futuristic workstations.

The fundamental idea was to involve the interior design fraternity and product designers to develop products which suit the evolving and elated customer needs which could be developed and manufactured in a mass manufacturing set-up.'' Over 50 architects, interior designers, students and furniture designers participated in the event from across the country. The criteria for judging constituted of concept behind the design, the drawings highlighting the design features, specification including material, colours etc, specialized tooling system if required, 3-D images of the same. Based on their designs, the finalists were chosen and prototypes of the final designs were evaluated.
