Kathmandu, Oct 30 (UNI) Nepali Congress(NC) has said if the Maoists do not withdraw their proposals registered at Parliament to declare the Himalayan nation a republic and introduction of proportionate representation system, it would vote against the proposals.

NC has urged CPN-Maoist to withdraw its proposals to create an environment of trust for the elections.

Speaking at Parliament today, Acting president of NC Sushil Koirala requested the Maoists to withdraw the proposals that seek the declaration of republic and proportionate representation system.

He asked the Maoists to stop their acts of threatening and intimidating.

He said that the parties should move ahead creating an environment of trust as there was nothing left to be given from the NC's side and it has already given whatever it had to.

The special session of the House is discussing the Maoists proposal.

Maoists leader Dev Gurung said his party forwarded the motions for declaring the nation a republic through the interim parliament as the foreign and royalist forces would not let the Constituent Assembly elections happen in the country.

All the major political parties have said that they would go for republic but that should be decided by fresh elections of Constituent Assembly.
